Our Contact Lens Selection

Refractive errors, like near- and farsightedness, may be corrected by wearing contact lenses. They make a great choice since they offer clearer eyesight, comfort, and convenience. There are different types available on the market, with each kind designed to address specific eye care needs. Let your trusted low vision specialist, Dr. Joel H. McGahen, OD, discuss each option for your understanding.

Gas Permeable (GP) and Silicone Hydrogel Contact Lenses

Gas permeable contact lenses are often made of rigid and durable plastics that allow oxygen penetration to your eyes. Their firm material ensures better shape retention for your improved vision experience. They are generally more resistant to surface deposits as well. Silicone hydrogels, on the other hand, are also oxygen-permitting contact lenses. In fact, they can allow oxygen particles to pass through your eyes up to five times better than regular GP and hydrogel lenses.

Soft Contact Lenses

This type of contact lenses is made of a flexible, plastic material that enables oxygen to reach your eyes. Their soft consistency offers optimum comfort for your eyes and a lower risk of dislodgement.

Bifocal and Multifocal Contact Lenses

Bifocals contain two prescriptions for both close- and far-range vision. Multifocals, on the other hand, have multiple lens powers for close-, intermediate-, and far-range viewing ease. Both variations are usually prescribed for presbyopia correction.

Colored Lenses

Apart from unmatched visual clarity, contact lenses offer aesthetic benefits too. They come in various colors, letting you enjoy having different eye colors each day. Before purchasing a pair, make sure to have your eyes examined by a trusted eye doctor.
