Here’s what sets it apart from others:

Interesting Background

U.S. Army Air Corps Colonel John A. Macready sought help from one of the largest eye health product companies, Bausch and Lomb, to create customized sunglasses for air navigators in 1929. He wanted a pair that could effectively reduce the sky’s intense white and blue hues to prevent pilots from easily being distracted. The product was an aviator type of sunglasses with green lenses and plastic frames. Popularly known as the “Anti-Glare, ” it can cut glare without compromising the wearer’s vision.

The company added impact-resistant features to the aviator sunglasses in 1938. They remodeled the eyewear the following year, featuring metal frames and Kalichrome lenses. This lead to an eyewear that can filter blue light and sharpen details, allowing pilots excellent optics even in foggy and misty conditions. Your optometrist shares that this design was patented as the iconic Ray-Ban Aviator™.
